I may have grown up as a California girl with a peach tree in my backyard, but I have to say, the Colorado peaches this year win at a level of deliciousness that rival childhood memories. I may not have tried all the peach varieties in the world, but those high country peaches are rocking my world quite a bit.
But let’s talk about something super fun!
Did you know that peaches are one of the many sources for antioxidants? One of the antioxidants that peaches provide is lutein, which is a pretty amazing nutrient for eye health. One of the other more well known antioxidants that it provides is vitamin C. Vitamin C is known for boosting the immune system, but did you know that scientists keep discovering more and more ways that the body can use vitamin C? Basically, getting your food sources of vitamin C is one of the best things you can do to support your body’s health.
Peaches are also a good source of fiber. I’m sure you’ve heard it stated before how fiber is good for the digestion, but did you know that proper amounts of fiber help keep blood sugar levels in balance? With something sweet like a peach, you will need to make sure that you are following doctor’s recommendations with your fiber and sugar requirements, but it is still a great fruit to keep in mind when wanting to have a sweet snack that still gives some fiber and so many other amazing nutrients for keeping your body happy throughout.
What do you love about peaches? How do you eat them? I love eating them in almost any way I can get my hands on them! For a yummy snack, mix together your favorite nuts and seeds and add a fresh peach and top it with some coconut cream! YUM!
There’s so many amazing things about peaches and food in general, but I wanted to take a moment to let you know that while I am a researcher of facts, I do not have a certification or degree in nutrition or any other medical related fields. Please be sure to do your own research and follow a doctor’s recommendations based upon your lifestyle needs.
